Research

Utilizing Appbot, competitor audits, and competitor analysis’, I was able to get a better idea of what our users might be looking for in the new history section of the app. Overall, I learned that our competitors and our old app presented history logs as simple diary recordings of old robot runs. The information isn't helpful to users unless they want to see a map of their home. I decided to take this as an opportunity to utilize the information we record from the robot in a more helpful way. Would the user like to know the velocity of their robot? Would they like to know how to improve their cleaning runs based on our data?

North Star Design & Flow Creation

I explored a few formatting options in my north star designs, but most followed the typical list format that users see in Facebook apps. Unfortunately these designs did not solve the problem of multiple devices (and overall clashed with the existing design of the app). The final designs became more of a reflection of messages from the device itself, utilizing chat bubbles. This way, a user is easily able to tell device messages apart via the profile icons on the left. Once the designs were finalized, I specified flows for our development team.

The user can view charts showing how much they have cleaned total, how many minutes they have cleaned, and how many cleaning runs they have made. A user flow showing a user navigating from the home screen to the analytics tab. They see a high level chart of their cleaning history, and click into a list form. They select their most recent clean from the list and are able to see a map of the robot's cleaning path on their floor plan.

MVP 2020 Handoff & Release

Unfortunately, as release inched closer, the page as a whole became more simplistic. For release, we would not be able to implement the complicated dashboard designs I had delivered. Quickly responding to this change, Analytics became History, and the data shown became a simple diary of logs.
An image showing the page anatomy and redlines of the final design of the MyNeato analytics page for handoff. The final design shows a single robot, the robot's name, and a list of cleaning history. The user can click into each cleaning run and view a map of the robot's cleaning path and more detailed information.
An image of the user flow from the main page to analytics. The user navigated into the history tab, and selects a recent clean. They can see that the clean was completed on floor 1, and it was started manually with the robot's button. A map at the bottom of the screen shows which zones the robot successfully cleaned.
